USC Trojans vs UCLA Bruins What to Watch:

On Saturday night, the USC Trojans travel to play their cross-town rivals, the UCLA Bruins, in an attempt to earn bowl eligibility. The Bruins (4-6) lost 31-19 at Washington in Week 12, while the Trojans (5-5) come off a 28-20 victory at home against Nebraska. In this rivalry, the away team has won four in a row, including a 38–20 victory over UCLA the previous season. The teams are meeting for the first time as Big Ten Conference members. In 2024, the Bruins are 6-3-1 ATS while the Trojans are 6-4 against the spread.

The Rose Bowl kickoff is set for 10:30 p.m. ET. According to the most recent USC vs. UCLA odds, the Trojans are 4.5-point road favorites.

Jayden Maiava, a quarterback who transferred from UNLV this past offseason, made the most of his first start at USC. In the game against Nebraska, the sophomore, who took Miller Moss' place, completed 25 of 35 throws for 259 yards and three touchdowns with just one interception. On five rushing tries, he also tallied 20 yards and a touchdown. Both Zachariah Branch and Duce Robinson, the Trojans' top two receivers, scored scores against the frugal Cornhuskers' defense.

In Week 12, running back Woody Marks recorded a 19-carry, 146-yard performance, surpassing 1,000 yards of rushing. The senior has run for 1,024 yards and nine touchdowns this season, averaging 5.9 yards per carry.

Although Maiava should be successful against the third-worst passing defense in the Big Ten (245.7 yards allowed), UCLA has the fourth-best running defense in the conference (100.6 yards allowed per game), so he will have his work cut out for him. In its final regular season game away from home, USC aims to record its first road victory of the year.

The Bruins, who had a 1-5 start to the season, won three straight games before losing to the Washington Huskies last Friday night in Seattle. In the defeat, quarterback Ethan Garbers threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns; in the team's last four games, he has now thrown for multiple scores. He has 2,173 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions so far this season.

After rushing for a total of 44 attempts over the last three weeks, running back T.J. Harden has recently seen an increase in playing time. Two weeks ago, Harden ran for 20 carries and a season-high 125 yards against Iowa. He should have no trouble against a USC defense that is in the bottom third of the conference and allows 132 yards of rushing per game. The matchup at the Rose Bowl on Saturday night should be close because of USC's road difficulties and the Bruins' recent strong play.
