#16 Utah Utes vs Arizona State Sun Devils What to Watch:
When the Arizona State Sun Devils play the Utah Utes on Friday night, the former Pac-12 rivals will square off in the Big 12. Both teams are 4-1 on the season and have a 1-1 conference play record, however Utah's most recent game ended in a loss to Arizona, while ASU recently defeated Kansas. Although Utah is 2-6 against the spread in its previous eight games, Arizona State has won and covered in four of five, and the Utes have won and covered the spread in each of the last four head-to-head meetings between these programs.
At Mountain America Stadium, where ASU is undefeated 3-0 this season, kickoff is set for 10:30 p.m. ET.
After winning the program's first-ever Big 12 game against Kansas last week, the Sun Devils are off to their best 4-1 start since 2021. Cameron Skattebo maintained his amazing season by rushing for 182 yards and a touchdown, while Sam Leavitt threw for four touchdowns in the 35-31 triumph.
In his last two games, Skattebo has already amassed 378 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns. Kenny Dillingham's team has been able to control the line of scrimmage thanks to his punishing running style, and the second-year head coach will continue to heavily rely on his star tailback against Utah after the Utes gave up 161 rushing yards in a defeat to Arizona.
Despite losing to the Wildcats two weeks ago, the Utes are still ranked No. 16 in the AP Top 25. Utah will reportedly start quarterback Cam Rising again after a bye week, and their chances of making the College Football Playoffs may depend on his health moving forward. Rising has been plagued by a hand injury for the past five weeks, but when fit, he has been one of college football's most effective quarterbacks.
Additionally, Utah boasts one of the top college football defenses. The Utes are 16th in the country in terms of yards allowed per game (280.2) and only give up 15.0 points per game (15th). Van Fillinger, a defensive end, has been particularly disruptive, leading the team in tackles (24), sacks (5.5), and tackles for loss (7.0).
