UTSA Roadrunners vs #2 Texas Longhorns What to Watch:
When the No. 2 Texas Longhorns (2-0) play the UTSA Roadrunners (1-1) on Saturday night, they will be hoping for yet another resounding win. After easily defeating Colorado State 52-0 in Week 1, Texas made a big impression last week by defeating then-No. 10 Michigan 31-12 on the road. In Week 2, UTSA lost to Texas State in a 49-10 final after defeating Kennesaw State in the first game. When Texas and UTSA faced each other in 2022, Texas won 41–20.
Throughout the first two weeks of the season, Texas has stylishly supported its narrative as a national title candidate.
The Longhorns defeated then-No. 10 Michigan on the road last week in front of a crowded Big House after thrashing Colorado State in a 52-0 final in Week 1. In the victory versus the Wolverines, Texas ran for 143 yards and junior quarterback Quinn Ewers completed 24 of 36 throws for 246 yards and three touchdowns.
Ewers has established himself as a Heisman Trophy contender this season by completing 69.8% of his throws for 506 yards and six touchdowns. Gunnar Helm, a senior tight end, just finished a fantastic game in which he caught seven receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown. Texas has covered the spread in five of its last six games and is on an eight-game winning streak at home.
After their thrilling victory on the road against Michigan in the week's most important college football game, Texas is disappointed. Given that UTSA just suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Texas State, the Longhorns may find it difficult to maintain the same level of passion in this game. That was an unexpected outcome because UTSA was only a 2.5-point underdog in that contest.
Prior to this week's defeat, the Roadrunners had won nine of their previous ten games and were only 13 points down on the road when they visited Texas two years ago. Texas has had trouble keeping up with this kind of competition; in five consecutive games against AAC opponents, they have failed to cover the spread. There is some merit taking UTSA at this figure because the line has also moved from -32 to -35.5.
