Virginia Cavaliers vs #10 Clemson Tigers What to Watch:
On Saturday afternoon, the No. 10 Clemson Tigers (5-1) will face the Virginia Cavaliers (4-2) in their first home game of the month. Despite losing badly to then-No. 1 Georgia to start the season, Clemson has maintained a five-game winning streak that has kept them in the running for the College Football Playoffs. The Tigers are still atop the ACC standings after winning back-to-back away games against Wake Forest and Florida State. Last week, Virginia lost 24–20 to Louisville, ending their two-game winning streak.
Memorial Stadium will kick off on Saturday at 12:00 ET. According to the most recent Clemson vs. Virginia odds, Clemson is ahead by 21 points.
After losing to top-ranked Georgia at the end of August, many people thought Clemson was out of the running for the College Football Playoffs, but with a five-game winning streak, the Tigers have re-entered the debate. All five of those games, including last week's 49-14 victory at Wake Forest, have been won by a margin of at least 16 points. In that game, junior quarterback Cade Klubnik completed 31 of 41 throws for 309 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Since the Georgia loss, he has only had one interception and 17 touchdown passes.
In last week's victory, senior running back Phil Mafah averaged 5.7 yards per carry on 19 carries for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
With four of his previous five games seeing him reach 100 rushing yards, Clemson now boasts one of the most potent offenses in college football. The Tigers have won their previous five games against Virginia and covered the spread in six of their last six home games.
Since the start of the previous season, Virginia has been among the most underappreciated collegiate football teams, covering the spread at an 11-3-1 pace in its last 15 games. The Cavaliers have won their first two road games this season and are undefeated against the spread in their past six away games. They easily covered the spread as 4-point favorites in their most recent road triumph, a 43-24 victory against Coastal Carolina last month.
In that victory, junior running back Xavier Brown amassed an incredible 171 rushing yards on only nine carries, while sophomore quarterback Anthony Colandrea recorded 131 passing yards and two touchdowns. Prior to covering the 7.5-point underdog line in their 24–20 loss to Louisville last week, the Cavaliers added an outright victory over Boston College at the start of October. In the Cardinals' defeat, Colandrea ran for 84 yards and had 279 throwing yards and a score.
