#2 Washington Huskies vs #1 Michigan Wolverines What to Watch:

The national championship for the 2024 College Football Playoffs has been decided. On Monday, January 8, Michigan, ranked first, will play Washington, ranked second, at NRG Stadium in Houston. Future Big Ten rivals square off as the Huskies want to win their first national championship since 1991 and the Pac-12's first since 2004 in the conference's final season, while the Wolverines try to win their first since 1997.

After three seasons of teetering on the edge of greatness, Michigan failed to make a postseason appearance until defeating Alabama on Monday night. The Wolverines' defense, which held Bama to a season-low 288 yards in the Rose Bowl, once again demonstrated its nastiness.

The Wolverines made the game-winning stop on the final play of the game and sacked Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe six times, including four in the first half. That performance exemplified the dominance exhibited throughout the season by a team that started the CFP rated first in the country for total defense.

The Wolverines can also be aggressive. Corum has rushed for more than 3,500 yards in the last three seasons, and McCarthy is one of college football's most dependable passers, even though they haven't had to mash the gas very often. With 25 rushing touchdowns, a Michigan single-season record, Corum leads the nation.

Michigan just kept winning this season, never giving up more than 24 points in a game, and seldom falling behind en route to the top of the CFP Rankings, despite a sign-stealing controversy that rocked the school and resulted in coach Jim Harbaugh being suspended for three games.

With five consecutive one-possession victories, including their tight victory over Texas in the semifinals, Washington is proving to be a team of destiny. Penix, a Heisman Trophy finalist in his sixth and final collegiate season, is where it all begins. After working together while Penix was at Indiana, the left-handed gunslinger followed DeBoer to Washington.

The partnership worked well for the Hoosiers back then, and it has worked even better for Washington, which has three outstanding receivers: Rome Odunze, Ja'lynn Polk, and Jalen McMillan.

Despite having the best passing offense in the league, the Huskies made big stops repeatedly during the season to earn the program's first CFP triumph and second-ever CFP trip. Johnson, who transferred from Mississippi State this season, rushed for more than 1,100 yards, demonstrating Washington's ability to run the football. However, after being taken off the field during the game due to an injury sustained late in the fourth quarter against Texas, his eligibility for the CFP National Championship is in doubt.
