Western Kentucky Hilltoppers vs Sam Houston Bearkats What to Watch:

In a crucial game on Wednesday night in Huntsville, Texas, the Sam Houston Bearkats and Western Kentucky Hilltoppers will try to stay undefeated in Conference USA competition. WKU has won four of its last five games, including a 44-17 victory against UTEP on Thursday, while Sam Houston is coming off a bye week and has won four straight games. For the first time since 2019, the Hilltoppers (4-2, 2-0 C-USA), who are 1-2 away from home after defeats to Boston College and fifth-ranked Alabama, are hoping to begin league play 3-0. The Bearkats (5-1, 2-0 C-USA) are 2-0 at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium this season after their only defeat, 45-14, at UCF on September 7.

Hunter Watson, a junior quarterback, is a dual threat for the Bearkats. He is the team's top rusher in addition to being its best passer. One of Sam Houston's top receivers is Qua'Vez Humphreys, a junior in his first season with the Bearkats who has caught 12 passes for a team-high 281 yards (23.4 average) and four touchdowns. He caught two passes for 47 yards and a touchdown in the victory over UTEP, and he also caught four passes for 106 yards (26.5 average) and two touchdowns in the Hilltoppers' 31-13 victory over Hawaii on September 14. Senior running back Elijah Young is one of the team's top offensive players, carrying 79 times this season for 278 yards (3.5 average) and two touchdowns, with his best performance occurring in a 21-20 loss at Boston College on September 28.

He rushed 21 times for 85 yards (4.0 average) throughout that game. On September 7, the team defeated Eastern Kentucky 31-0, as he rushed 13 times for 52 yards (4.0 average) and two touchdowns.

Easton Messer, a sophomore wide receiver, also contributes to the offensive force. With 26 receptions for 342 yards (13.2 average) and two touchdowns, he is second on the club. In the victory over UTEP, Messer caught six catches for 106 yards, including a long of 57 yards. In the defeat at Boston College, he caught four passes for 33 yards (8.3 average) and a touchdown.
