#8 Alabama Crimson Tide vs Auburn Tigers What to Watch:

In one of the greatest rivalries in college football, Alabama and Auburn face off in the 88th Iron Bowl. One team is fighting to maintain their aspirations of making the College Football Playoffs, while the other team has the opportunity to play spoiler and defend home field. Even though they lost this season, the No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide (10-1) still have a chance to make the playoffs. The Auburn Tigers (6-5) have the opportunity to go 3-1 in their last four Iron Bowl home games, but they are unable to qualify for the playoffs. With a 49-37-1 record, Alabama is in the lead in the series.

Alabama is still in the running for the College Football Playoffs after losing to Texas early in the season. It will be difficult to keep Alabama out of the College Football Playoffs if the Crimson Tide give the Bulldogs their first defeat since 2021. Alabama has already secured a spot in the SEC Championship Game versus Georgia. But, if Alabama doesn't defeat Auburn this weekend, it won't matter what happens against Georgia, therefore they can't look forward to the SEC Championship Game. Additionally, Alabama could definitely use a convincing late-season SEC win to bolster its playoff case, given five unbeaten teams are ranked higher than them.

Jalen Milroe, a sophomore dual-threat quarterback, beat Kentucky 49-21 on the road with six touchdowns (three rushing and three throwing) in his most recent SEC game. With an average of 47.8 points per game over their last four games, the Crimson Tide rank third in the SEC in terms of scoring (36.6) points per game. The Crimson Tide are 7-1 ATS over their previous eight games this season, and Alabama has won 11 of the last 15 Iron Bowls, including the last three by an average margin of 17.6 points.

The home school has won the Iron Bowl six of the previous seven years, and the Tigers have won two of the last three Iron Bowls held at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Throughout the season, Auburn has played both well and poorly against its opponents, which hasn't always benefited the club. However, the Tigers get the chance to compete against the nation's eighth-ranked club. Auburn has only lost at home by more than seven points in the previous two seasons, and it has suffered two seven-point losses against ranked opponents this season (27-20 against No. 1 Georgia and 28-21 against No. 15 Ole Miss).

Jarquez Hunter leads Auburn's rushing offense, which is third in the SEC with 194.3 yards per game. Hunter leads the SEC with 14 touchdowns and ranks seventh in the conference in terms of rushing with 933 yards. The Tigers can easily cover the 14.5-point spread at home on Saturday if Auburn's run game can keep Alabama's offense off the field, as Hunter ran for 134 yards on 11 rushes (12.2 yards per carry) in last year's Iron Bowl.
