Baylor Bears vs #11 Utah Utes Tigers What to Watch:

Although this game does not officially count toward either team's conference record, No. 11 Utah (1-0) will play Baylor (1-0) in a Big 12 matchup on Saturday afternoon. The schools decided to keep this game as a non-conference matchup because the home-and-home series was set up years ago when Utah was still in the Pac-12. In the opening leg of the two-game series last season, the Utes came back to defeat Baylor 20–13. In Week 1, both teams dominated: Baylor defeated Tarleton State 45-3, and Utah defeated Southern Utah 49-0.

At Rice-Eccles Stadium, kickoff is scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET. Utah has a 14.5-point advantage.

Last season, Utah defeated this team 20–13, even though they were without starting quarterback Cameron Rising. He returned to action last week against Southern Utah after missing the entire 2023 season because of a knee injury sustained in the 2023 Rose Bowl. During the first half, Rising completed 10 of 15 passes for 254 yards and a career-high five touchdowns.

The senior quarterback, who is in his sixth year, became the first Utah quarterback to pass for five touchdowns in a half since 2008.

The tight end Three of those touchdown passes were caught by Brant Kuithe, who played in his first game since October 2022. Baylor has only covered the spread four times in its past 15 games, while Utah has won 19 of its last 20 home games.

Last week, Baylor put forth a strong performance after an inconsistent 2023 campaign. Dequan Finn, a transfer quarterback from Toledo, completed 14 of 22 throws for 192 yards and two scores as the Bears easily defeated Tarleton State 45-3. It will be challenging to prepare for Finn's versatility, since he also rushed for a 39-yard score.

Tarleton State only managed 181 total yards and went 2 of 14 on third down, demonstrating the Bears' strong defensive play. With 78 yards on 18 runs, junior running back Richard Reese led Baylor's rushing offense, while sophomore Dawson Pendergrass finished with 62 yards and a touchdown. In their last 15 games during Week 2, the Bears had a 12-3 record.
