#24 Illinois Fighting Illini vs #22 Nebraska Cornhuskers What to Watch:

The No. 22 Nebraska Cornhuskers (3-0) will welcome the No. 24 Illinois Fighting Illini (3-0) at Memorial Stadium on Friday to begin Big Ten play. The Huskers have dominated their first three games of 2024, outscoring their opponents 102–20. Nebraska recently defeated Northern Iowa 34-3 in Week 3. Additionally, the Illini have been outstanding this season, especially when it comes to defense, giving up only 8.7 points per contest. Illinois recently defeated Central Michigan 30–9 in Week 3. Nebraska has a 14-6-1 series lead. This season, both teams have a 3-0 record against the spread.

In 2024, the Huskers have dominated the defensive end of the ball. Through three games, the Blackshirts have given up just 20 points overall, and they have excelled at the line of scrimmage. Matt Rhule's defense has accumulated nine sacks and is only giving up 70.3 rushing yards per game.

The Huskers have been effective and well-balanced offensively. Dylan Raiola, a true freshman quarterback who comes into this game having completed 73.8% of his pass attempts for 670 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception, is rightfully receiving a lot of attention. With sophomore running back Dante Dowdell leading the way with 184 yards and three touchdowns, Nebraska also averages 171.3 yards per game.

The Illinois squad this year resembles Wisconsin's teams under head coach Bret Bielema in appearance. In addition to being effective and tough on offense, the Illini play outstanding defense. Xavier Scott, a junior defensive back who has changed games for Illinois, comes into this game with three interceptions, one forced fumble, and a pick-six.

In his second season with the team, quarterback Luke Altmyer has made tremendous progress offensively. The Ole Miss transfer has completed 647 yards, six touchdowns, and zero turnovers on 69.2% of his throw attempts. Pat Bryant, a senior wide receiver who comes into this game with 15 catches for 235 yards and four touchdowns, has been his main target.
