#19 Illinois Fighting Illini vs #9 Penn State Nittany Lions What to Watch:

On Saturday night, the No. 9 Penn State Nittany Lions (3-0) will host the No. 19 Illinois Fighting Illini (4-0) in their Big Ten debut. After a resounding 56-0 victory over Kent State two weeks ago, Penn State battled in its 34-27 victory over Bowling Green. After defeating then-No. 19 Kansas and then-No. 22 Nebraska, Illinois is hoping to defeat another ranked opponent. Last season, the Nittany Lions defeated the Fighting Illini 30–13 on the road.

Beaver Stadium will host kickoff on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET. According to the most recent Penn State vs. Illinois odds, the Nittany Lions are favored by 17.5 points.

Following victories over Bowling Green and Kent State, Penn State is preparing for the third game of a four-game homestand. Last week, the Nittany Lions defeated Kent State 56-0, covering the spread as 49-point favorites. Junior quarterback Drew Allar completed 17 of 21 throws for 309 yards and three touchdowns. On five carries, he also ran for 26 yards and a touchdown.

Throughout the season, Allar has completed almost 70% of his throws for 729 yards and eight touchdowns. Nicholas Singleton, a junior running back, has averaged 8.5 yards per carry while rushing for 314 yards and two touchdowns. In its last 15 games versus Big Ten opponents, Penn State has covered the spread at an 11-3-1 rate.

During its 4-0 start this season, Illinois has notched victories over then-No. 19 Kansas and then-No. 22 Nebraska, making it one of the most underappreciated teams in college football. Last week, the Fighting Illini defeated the Cornhuskers 31–24, despite being 9 points underdogs. Junior quarterback Luke Altmyer completed 21 of 27 throws for 215 yards and four touchdowns, giving him 10 touchdowns and zero interceptions this season.

While three of his teammates have accumulated more than 100 yards, sophomore running back Kaden Feagin has 242 rushing yards and three touchdowns. This season, Penn State has already had trouble covering the spread as a heavy favorite once, defeating Bowling Green earlier this month as a 34-point favorite by only one touchdown. Since the previous season, Illinois has covered the spread in eight of its ten games.
