#18 Oklahoma State Cowboys vs #7 Texas Longhorns What to Watch:

Texas wants to win the conference championship game in order to bring one final piece of the Big 12 with it when it moves to the SEC in a few months. The 2023 Big 12 Championship Game will take place on Saturday between the No. 7 Longhorns and No. 18 Oklahoma State. Texas needs to win the 2023 Big 12 Championship Game in order to qualify for the College Football Playoffs, but the Cowboys have other motivational factors. They want to win for all of the programs that will still be in the Big 12 with the impending reorganization, in addition to winning their first Big 12 Title Game.

Under quarterback Quinn Ewers, Texas boasts one of the most comprehensive offenses in the Big 12. The Longhorns averaged 34 points per game in the two games that Ewers missed, and he leads the conference in completion percentage and passing efficiency rating. After losing star rusher Jonathan Brooks late in the season, the Texas backfield also stepped up to fill the void. In its most recent regular season game, Texas defeated Texas Tech by 50 points and rushed for 302 yards, averaging a season-high 7.0 yards per carry.

That offense ought to take advantage of Oklahoma State's struggling defense. The Cowboys have allowed 36.3 points per game in their previous three games, all against unranked opponents, after giving up 24.3 points per game in their first nine games. OSU has as many interceptions (13) as passing touchdowns, thus the Pokes don't have the offensive capacity to save the faltering defense. In his last four games, starting quarterback Alan Bowman has two touchdown passes against six interceptions, and none of those defenses were as strong as the one he will face on Saturday. After a 2-2 start, Oklahoma State has won seven of its past eight games and advanced to the Big 12 championship game for the second time in its history. In 2021, the Cowboys advanced to the championship game but fell short against Baylor. Ollie Gordon II, one of the best running backs in the country, rushed for more than 250 yards in back-to-back games and scored five rushing touchdowns in one game.

It will be challenging for Texas to get off the field defensively quickly because he leads the nation with 1,580 rushing yards. Last week, Gordon became the first rushing back from Oklahoma State since Barry Sanders to score five touchdowns in a game versus BYU. The Cowboys defeated Texas last season and have covered the spread in six of their previous eight games. Check out SportsLine to see which side to support.
