Wisconsin Badgers vs #13 USC Trojans What to Watch:

When the USC Trojans play the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday, a new Big Ten rivalry will be created on CBS and Paramount+. After winning the first two games and losing the third, both clubs are at 2-1. Wisconsin had a bye a week ago and will play in its first conference game of the season, while the Trojans lost to Michigan last Saturday to start their Big Ten career. In the last 58 years, they have only met once, in the 2015 Holiday Bowl, when Wisconsin won 23–21.

At 3:30 p.m. ET, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will kick underway. The Trojans are favored by 14.5 points, per the most recent USC vs. Wisconsin odds.

Luke Fickell's team's discipline makes it clear that Wisconsin plays fundamentally and doesn't beat itself. It has the fewest penalty yards (53) in the country and the second-fewest penalties (11) in all of collegiate football. The Badgers don't allow cheap yards via infractions and they also protect possessions on offense, as they are among the few teams that haven't thrown an interception this season.

The Badgers are eighth in the FBS in terms of time of possession with that kind of strategy, and the Trojans' attack will be contained by merely minimizing the number of times USC has the ball.

Furthermore, the Trojans' trends are heading the other way because USC has been committing more turnovers every game this season, while quarterback Miller Moss' completion rate has decreased in each game.

With running back Woody Marks coming off consecutive games with 140+ scrimmage yards, the Trojans are stocked on both sides of the ball. Zachariah Branch, the top receiver in the Class of 2023, has improved greatly in his sophomore campaign and set new career highs in receptions (six) and yards (98) at wideout in the defeat to Michigan. Linebacker Eric Gentry leads the Big Ten in tackles for loss (seven) and solo tackles (18), and he also adds two sacks. His output on defense is unmatched.

The Trojans are 14th in the country in red-zone defense and 15th in third-down defense, demonstrating their exceptional situational play as a team. Over the past two games, USC has given up a total of 135 passing yards, but no touchdowns have been given up through the air. D'Anton Lynn, the new defensive coordinator, has held all three opponents to less than 28 points, something USC has only done twice in 2023. Since the Badgers haven't scored more than 28 points in any of their previous 11 regular season games, he should have minimal trouble stopping Wisconsin's offense.
